What is Brainspotting?
Brainspotting is a therapeutic approach that helps address unresolved emotional or traumatic experiences by exploring the connection between eye positions and the brain’s processing of memories and emotions.
Developed by David Grand, Ph.D., Brainspotting has been shown to be highly effective in treating a wide range of concerns, including trauma, anxiety, depression, physical pain, insomnia, performance challenges, and other difficult experiences.
The goal of Brainspotting is to activate your natural capacity for self-healing, allowing stored trauma and emotions to be processed and released in a safe, supportive way.
How does Brainspotting work?
Brainspotting works by accessing deeper areas of the brain—such as the right hemisphere, limbic system, and brainstem—that are closely involved in storing and regulating emotions. One of its most promising features is that it bypasses the “thinking” part of the brain, which can sometimes block or slow the healing process.
Instead of focusing on thoughts, Brainspotting emphasizes body-based sensations, creating a direct pathway to reprocess difficult emotions. By accessing the brain & body in this way, Brainspotting often allows for more rapid and effective healing compared to traditional talk therapy.
